Custom Cabinetry in Loudoun County, VA
We design and build custom cabinets for kitchens, bathrooms, bars, and workspaces throughout Loudoun County. We build every piece to your room’s dimensions rather than selecting it from a catalog.
Always part of the house
Cabinetry Built by the People Who Design It
A&E Custom Carpentry & Design is a family-owned business run by Annie and Eric. Annie leads design and planning. Eric leads the build.
We build our cabinetry ourselves rather than ordering it in. That means measurements come from your walls, not a standard size list, and the person who draws the plan builds it. You can read more about how we work.
How Our Cabinets Are Built
Our cabinets use hard maple face frames, finished maple plywood interiors, soft-close hardware, and cope-and-stick joinery.
Hard maple face frames
The face frame is the front structure a cabinet door mounts to. Hard maple is a dense hardwood, which matters at points of daily stress, particularly where hinges attach.
Finished maple plywood interiors
Plywood boxes are built from layered wood rather than compressed particle. The interiors are finished rather than left raw.
Cope-and-stick joinery
A method of joining cabinet door frames where the rail and stile interlock rather than butting together. A traditional approach used in furniture-grade cabinetry.
Soft-close hardware
Hinges and drawer slides that close smoothly instead of slamming.
Where We Build Cabinetry
Cabinetry runs through most rooms in a house, not just the kitchen.
Kitchen Cabinetry
Base and wall cabinets, islands, pantry storage, and pull-out organization built to your layout. We also build custom range hoods and wood countertops. Our kitchen remodeling page covers full kitchen projects.
Bathroom Vanities
Custom vanities and tower cabinets sized to the room, not adapted from a stock unit, and built with the same materials and joinery as our kitchen work. See our bathroom remodeling page for full bathroom projects.
Wet Bar and Wine Room Cabinetry
Cabinetry, storage, and countertops for wet bars, dry bars, and wine rooms. Often part of a basement finishing project, though we build them on any floor.
Laundry Room Cabinetry
Built-in storage, folding stations, and cabinetry planned around the machines and the way the room is used.
Home Office Cabinetry
Integrated desks, shelving, and cabinetry built into the room rather than placed in it. For bookcases, media walls, window seats, and mudroom storage, see our custom built-ins page.
Custom Cabinets Compared to Stock Cabinets
The difference comes down to whether the cabinets are built to your room or selected to fit inside it.
Stock cabinets are manufactured in fixed widths and chosen from a catalog. Because walls rarely land on those dimensions, filler panels close the leftover gaps. Stock cabinets generally cost less and arrive faster.
Custom cabinets are built to the specific room’s measurements, so a run fits wall to wall. Custom also allows control over materials, joinery, door style, and hardware.
We offer both. When a project calls for stock cabinetry, we supply quality stock options, and we handle the design, installation, and finish carpentry either way.
Consultation
We visit your home, measure the space, and talk through storage needs, budget, and timeline.
Design and 3D Renderings
Annie draws the cabinetry to scale and produces detailed 3D CAD renderings, so you can see the finished result before anything is built. We select materials, finishes, and hardware together.
Build
Once you approve the design, we build your cabinetry to the exact room dimensions.
Installation
We install and complete the finish carpentry, keeping the site clean and the project on schedule.

Custom Cabinetry Questions
What is the difference between custom and stock cabinets?
Stock cabinets are manufactured in fixed sizes and selected from a catalog, so filler panels close the gaps between standard units and the walls. Custom cabinets are built to the specific room’s measurements. Custom also allows more control over materials, joinery, and hardware. Stock cabinets generally cost less and arrive faster.
Does A&E build the cabinetry or order it?
We build it. We build our cabinets to your room’s dimensions, using hard maple face frames, finished maple plywood interiors, soft-close hardware, and cope-and-stick joinery.
What is cope-and-stick joinery?
A method of joining cabinet door frames where the rail and stile interlock rather than butt together. It is a traditional technique used in furniture-grade cabinetry.
Does replacing kitchen cabinets require a permit in Loudoun County?
Replacing cabinets in place is treated differently from a remodel that changes the room. A building permit is generally tied to work that relocates plumbing fixtures, adds electrical circuits, or removes or adds walls. Because scope determines the requirement, confirm with Loudoun County Building and Development for your specific project.
How long does custom cabinetry take to build?
Timelines depend on project size and the number of pieces. Design turnaround also depends on how quickly you make material and finish decisions. We give you a timeline for your specific project during the consultation.
What rooms does A&E build cabinetry for?
Kitchens, bathrooms, wet bars and wine rooms, laundry rooms, and home offices. We also build custom range hoods and wood countertops.
What areas does A&E serve?
We serve all of Loudoun County, including Purcellville, Round Hill, Hamilton, Bluemont, Middleburg, Waterford, Lovettsville, Leesburg, Ashburn, and Sterling.
